traditions

On this festive day filled with family traditions it was fantastic to start with the best one, a walk together along Somers beach, perfect for preparing ones self for the full day ahead.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and hope that you have had a wonderful day with family and friends.

Thank You for your ongoing support, I look forward to sharing more with you in the New Year.

time for a wreath

I have noticed lately that more and more wreaths are been proudly displayed on Somers homes.

I’m unable to decide on the best spot for my wreath, I know the tradition is for it to be on the front door however I think it may need to come inside with me!

a big thanks to the creative talents of Sarah @ Balflower - Balnarring Village

salute to the sun

so here’s the thing, I don’t do yoga and I don’t exactly know what a salute to the sun is, but if I did and if I could then I am pretty sure I would have done one tonight. after our wet and windy grey old day I was surprised to see this spectacular sunset lighting up the sky. I thought I would head to the beach to take a closer look - imagine my delight.

garden sculpture

spotted today at Coolart Gardens and Homestead these Agapanthus flower heads provide the best garden sculpture one can find. Sitting above the masses of large and lush strappy green foliage they will soon open up to provide some much needed summer color.
And inside the Homestead preparations were underway to decorate the Christmas tree, a large addition that is sure worth a visit.

bauble racing

today's wind didn't create the best conditions for shooting our christmas card image however the runaway baubles and eventual bauble racing was a heap of fun!
Anyone watching must have thought that myself and the mighty toddler were mad, but I suggest everyone give it a go - it is the perfect antidote for pre-christmas stress!

bloomin Bracteantha

Like little balls of sunshine the Bracteantha of Somers are bursting into bloom!
These plants are from my own garden and although they are in need of a good prune they are providing some early summer color which should last throughout the season.

a warm, windy, wet & wonderful weekend

I think we can now put away our winter warmers as summer is well and truly on its way.
A balmy weekend with warm rain and strong breezes ended with a spectacular storm of which I was lucky enough to catch the very last of from the beach. I hope you had a good one.......

blissed out in Byron

Some may have noticed that the blog has been a bit slow of late, I have been enjoying a laid back couple of weeks at Byron Bay with the family. I have plenty of images to share but thought the above sunrise was worthy of been posted first.

the spring garden

These bright and cheerful Poppies were today spotted in the garden of much a loved family friend.
Dancing about in the breeze they were very popular with the bees - how fantastic is spring!

five little ducks went out one day..........................

.........well they went for a walk along Sandy Point rd anyway.
Drive slowly if you will as there are some new arrivals in town, 5 little duckings that are simply too cute!
The mighty toddler has often wondered where the ducks are off to when she spots them walking along the road, well imagine her amazement today when she saw these little guys waddling along.

water tower tall

Built in 1965 and used by many as a direction marker, some think the Somers Water Tower it is a bit of an eyesore.

Not me – I enjoy watching the changing shadows that are cast the throughout the year and the colours of the aging shell blending with the surrounding environment.

It’s all in the way that you look at it I guess.

wet start

Yay to the arrival of spring, no matter how wet it is.

As we feel the days getting longer and rejoice in the occasional bursts of warm sunshine, our gardens are simply exploding with colour and fragrance.

Our neighbor has the most spectacular planting of Freesias that have budded and are starting to bloom, their scent can be detected for some distance and herald to me the start of the best season of them all.

All the fun of the market

Just a quick thanks to everyone who stopped by my stall today at the fantastic Somers Winter Market.
A great day was had by all, myself having a most enjoyable time meeting new people, discussing images from the blog and even selling some along the way.

I enjoyed the experience so much I'm going to look at doing more markets in the future.

Thanks again,
Janis

Goodbye Monday

On my way to enjoy the scenic full moon rising this evening I stopped to admire the sun setting over the rock pools and seaweed. The moon was sensational - hope you were able to enjoy it to!

Sunday, July 25, 2010

I often see this little lost duck whilst out walking; he's sitting amongst the grass on a nature strip not far from home. I have no idea how he came to be where he is, but he always puts a smile on my face and plants a seed of intrigue in my mind, where did he come from, why has he been left there and what has he seen?

Toddler Pace

A stroll along Koala walk at extreme toddler pace this afternoon allowed time for admiring the delicate foliage of the Casuarina and the range of colours that it can display.
Wet from the morning rain and with the sun sneaking through I couldn't help but get the camera out.

To the Tropical North we go.............

We have been very fortunate this last week to be able to travel to the tropical north and thaw out with family in Townsville, QLD. I took the opportunity to get a fix of large lush foliage and rich tropical colour whilst marvelling at the range of climate and breadth of plant life that our country can parade.
